*10 Fresh spinach leaves (washed)
6 Eggs blended with shells
3 Carrots
1 Pound peanut butter
2 Tblsp. Molasses
2 Tblsp. Honey
4 Cups water
1 1/3 Cups powdered milk
1 1/2 Cups wheat germ
2  Cups wheat flour
3  Cups corn meal (white, self rising)
**2  Cups 7 grain cereal (Health Valley)
4  Tsp. Baking powder
2  Tsp. Baking soda
2  Cups apple sauce
10 Tsp. Spirulina (Available from ACNR Inc.
1 1/2 Cups hulled millet seed (regular Cockatiel seed mix works fine)

Note: For pluckers add 8 500Mg capsules of St. Johns Wort

*Spinach does contain certain calcium blockers. With the abundant amount of calcium in this recipe I feel the benefits in this particular circumstance out weigh the negative effects. If you feel that this is a problem you can replace the spinach with an equal amount of kale.

** Other multigrain cereals will work, such as Kellogg's Just Right. Use a cereal with as many different grains as possible.

Preheat oven to 300o
In a blender mix the spinach, eggs, carrots and 2 cups of the water. In a large pot or bowl mix the remaining ingredients. Add the blended ingredients, adding remaining water as needed. Spread mixture one to one and one-half inches deep in lightly oiled baking pans or glassware. (glassware preferred) Bake at 300o for 30 minutes or until brown. When cooled, cut into squares and freeze for later use. Any unfrozen bird bread must be kept refrigerated to prevent spoilage.
Crumble small amounts of bird bread in a separate dish daily. Feed fresh fruits and vegetables about 3 times a week. Remove all fresh food after one day to prevent spoilage and bacteria. Your bird can eat just about anything that you eat as long as it is not particularly greasy or salty.
Mist Birds with fresh water weekly.
Keeping your bird's cage and dishes clean is important to avoid bacteria and disease. One cup bleach mixed with one gallon of water makes an excellent disinfectant.

Note: Some questions have arisen about the similarities of this recipe and the bird bread recipe printed on page 6 in the Nov, 1998 issue of BirdTalk magazine. I have been developing this recipe since at least the early 1980's. In fact the recipe printed in BirdTalk was identical to this recipe at one point of its developmental state many years ago. I have always circulated this recipe freely and feel that the one printed in that issue of Birdtalk was a copy of this recipe in its early state.
